You Are My Sunshine - Studio Calico

Good Morning! Last night I played with Seize the Sketch and the Build a Background Challenge at A Blog Named Hero. The designers are using Lawn Fawn this month, so I decided to do the same for my challenge entry:

I used the Interlocking Backgrounds stamp inked in Green Hills Shadow Ink, Studio Calico Office Hours March Card Kit and a Hero Arts/Studio Calico stamp for the sentiment.

I'm liking the cleaner lines of my cards lately, so this was a great sketch to work with. I am also participating at A Cherry On Top's April Pinterest Challenge with this pin that I had liked for using with the background stamp.

Hi! Hello How Are You? - Studio Calico

Hi there! Thanks so much for coming by, I know it's been ages since hearing from me, and I apologize for such silence. There were areas in my life that really needed my attention and focus. All the while, my mojo was gnawing at me, especially in the past few weeks. So I decided to scratch that itch, have some fun, and create. Here is my "Hi! Hello How Are You" spring-inspired card created for the Studio Calico Sunday Sketch:


Studio Calico "Sugar Rush" Card Kit.

Seeing this sketch, I was a bit intimidated by the block design -- so it was quite a challenge.

Sketch Variations
- Border strips: I mitered the corners
- Banner element: Lowered banner placement to bottom edge
- Two Blocks: Created a "canopy" and merged with sentiment

Tina Aszmus had a super fun tutorial for the Studio Calico Weekly Challenge last week. It was to digitally "ink" the digital stamps with digital brushes. How cool and clever! I haven't tried the watercolor technique and this was perfect without having to getting messy. I made two designs, one brushed and one watercolor effect:

Colors are always off when I print, but once I stamped the kite image with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink over the watercolor design, WOW, it came out so pretty! I punched out a scallop out of the brushed design and drew in semi circles on the edges to balance out all the black. The banner strip was cut from the Fancy Pants paper using the Papertrey Ink Double-Ended Banners Die.


To create the kite strings, I ran the Papertrey Ink In the Meadow Die leaving a 1/8th inch border for each cut. The little girl was colored in with Prismacolor pencils #929 and #965.



I truly love how this block designed card turned out. Glad I took the challenge!!

Studio Calico Valley High

Hello! It sure has been quiet in this little spot of blogland. It's been some time since I updated. Incredible with all the mounds of supplies and kits I have, I hardly get the time to use it. Well, I did sit down tonight and created a card with Valley High, the Studio Calico July Card Kit.

I used this Studio Calico Sunday Sketch. I varied the sketch a little, offsetting the middle column to the left, and the speech bubble and washi tape strip was the sentiment strip area.

I am playing with this lovely Pinspired Challenge. I absolutely love this image, I had been wanting to use it for the Color Combo challenges - loved the pink, orange and aqua color scheme. So I pulled those papers out of the kit, then flowers from the Papertrey Ink The Sweet Life stamps and die set, and the washi tape from the Jennifer add-on.

I am also playing with Seize the Birthday and A Passion for Papertrey, which was to create a birthday themed card.

I first stamped the speech bubble image in Terracotta Tile ink, bummed because it bled a little, wrong cardstock. Bazzill White. Oh well, I learn as I go. Anyway, this was a birthday card, so I covered the original "hello" sentiment from the stamp with one of the Valley High 6x6 papers and set the wood chip birthday sentiment on top. Was undecided between "friend" or "sunshine" sentiment, "sunshine" won because it was cuter. Then I added the washi tape strip to ground the elements, and a few rhinestones for happiness.

The rose was stamped in Sweet Blush ink, then used Berry Sorbet - stamping once on scrap paper, then onto the image for a softer look. You can tell I was experimenting cuz I messed up on the edge. The Berry Sorbet didn't come off on the first press. Well, I did the same technique for the base of the leaf using Harvest Gold ink, then stamped Fine Linen directly on top. A much better impression.

This was a fun card to make, and it was great to be back in my scraproom playing along with some fun challenge sites. Thanks for stopping by and seeing me come back out of the woodwork! ;)
